UWHC Dementia Care Seminar - November 2025

Dementia Care Seminar for Caregivers
United Way Hernando Hosts Annual Event in November

Hernando County, FL - United Way of Hernando County invites all community members to attend a free Dementia Care Seminar, designed to empower and support caregivers, families, and professionals who are caring for loved ones living with Alzheimer’s or dementia. This seminar will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 from 9:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at WellCome OM Integral Healing & Education Center - 4242 Lake in the Woods Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34607.

Caring for someone with dementia can be challenging. This annual seminar aims to provide caregivers with the knowledge, resources, and support they need to navigate this journey. Whether you are a family member, friend, or professional caregiver, this opportunity is designed to equip you with valuable insights and strategies to enhance the quality of care for individuals living with dementia, while focusing on
self-wellness.

As the number of families impacted by dementia continues to rise, United Way is responding by connecting the community with vital education and resources. Knowledgeable guest experts will include: Gary Joseph Leblanc from Dementia Spotlight Foundation, and a special guest expert panel featuring Jim Murphy (personal caregiver), Dr. Brian Dahmer from Family Chiropractic Center for Wellness, Deputy Ashley May from Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, and Michelangelo Mortellaro from Mortellaro Law. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in interactive discussions, ask questions, and connect with other caregivers facing similar challenges.

Often times, caregivers forget to care for themselves. It is important that caregivers of all ages have a support system, reminding them that they are not alone. Sometimes that’s other family members or neighbors. Other times it’s a caring stranger in a support group. “Caring for someone with dementia can be both emotionally and physically demanding,” said Gary Joseph LeBlanc, author & educator at Dementia Spotlight Foundation. “Our goal is to provide caregivers with the tools, knowledge, and community connections they need to navigate this journey with confidence and compassion.”

This free seminar is open to everyone in the community and both breakfast and lunch will be provided thanks to our generous Partners in Health at HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital and Carrabba’s Italian Grill. Pre-registration is required. Attendees must RSVP to reserve their spot by visiting www.UnitedWayHernando.org/Dementia2025. On-site respite care will be provided at this event by Always Near Home Care (please indicate your need when registering).
