Treasury Releases Request for Information related to the Executive Order 14247 “Modernizing Payments To and From America's Bank Account''

The U.S. Department of the Treasury recently released a Request for Information (RFI) related to Executive Order 14247: “Modernizing Payments To and From America’s Bank Account.” This initiative supports the transition of federal disbursements from paper checks to electronic payments.

According to a Treasury news release:

Beginning September 30, 2025, all federal payments currently made by paper check — including Social Security benefits, tax refunds, and vendor payments — will be issued electronically.

Paper checks are increasingly a target for fraud. As such, the Treasury is committed to raising awareness about these growing risks and equipping Americans with the tools and knowledge to make secure and informed financial decisions.

The RFI offers an opportunity for individuals and organizations to provide input on Treasury’s implementation of the Executive Order and to suggest strategies for increasing public awareness, especially among unbanked and underbanked populations, to facilitate the transition to digital payments.

This is your chance to contribute. To view the RFI, submit comments, and review the specific questions posed, please follow this link.

The deadline to submit written comments is June 30, 2025.

Thank you for your engagement and support in advancing safe and modern federal payment methods.
