Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan Community Meeting Scheduled for June 25
(Brooksville, FL) – Hernando County Government is inviting the public to participate in a community meeting to help guide the development of the Post-Disaster Redevelopment Plan (PDRP). The PDRP is a joint effort between Hernando, Hillsborough, and Pinellas counties. The event will be held:
Wednesday, June 25, 2025
6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Brooksville Enrichment Center
800 John Gary Grubbs Blvd, Brooksville, FL 34601
The PDRP will serve as a long-term strategy to rebuild a stronger, more resilient community in the aftermath of disasters such as hurricanes, floods, or other catastrophic events. While emergency plans cover short-term response, the PDRP will focus on redevelopment — rebuilding homes, restoring businesses, repairing infrastructure, and revitalizing neighborhoods in a sustainable and coordinated way.
Community input is essential to this planning process. Residents, business owners, and stakeholders who were impacted by Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton, or other disasters are especially encouraged to attend and share their experiences.
The plan aims to:
· Identify high-risk areas and guide sustainable future development
· Improve housing recovery and business continuity after disasters
· Strengthen infrastructure resilience and environmental sustainability
· Ensure a coordinated, well-funded redevelopment strategy
· Preserve historic, cultural, and environmental resources
· Establish clear recovery policies, strategies, and roles for local governments
· Prioritize disadvantaged communities and vulnerable populations in recovery efforts
“This is more than a planning process — it’s a community-driven roadmap to recovery,” said Erin Thomas, Hernando County Emergency Management Director. “We’re asking residents to share their lived experiences, especially those impacted by Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton, or other disasters. Your feedback will help ensure recovery is efficient, effective, and future-ready.”
The feedback collected at this workshop will be integrated into a comprehensive regional PDRP for the Tampa Bay area. Hernando County’s plan is expected to be finalized by fall 2025, with the regional plan completed by spring 2026.
