Notice of Changes to Escrow Account Usage and Temporary Self- Issuance Permit Processes

(Brooksville, FL) – The Hernando County Development Services Departments are transitioning to a new software system to enhance customer experiences, and the following changes will occur:

Effective immediately for the Building Division:
·         No new escrow accounts may be opened at this time.
·         Existing active escrow account holders may add funds through close of business on January 23, 2026.
·         All escrow funds must be fully utilized by midnight on January 23, 2026. Any funds not utilized by midnight on January 23 will be submitted for refund in accordance with applicable financial procedures.
·         The contractor self-issuance process will be temporarily modified as the Building Division transitions to the new software. Additional information regarding this modification will be posted on the Hernando County website at www.hernandocounty.us/departments/departments-a-e/building-division-1717 as it becomes available.

Effective immediately for the Planning and Zoning Divisions:
·         Cash bonds and escrow payments for Commercial Zoning and Planning requirements will no longer be accepted.
·         To meet departmental requirements for landscape, performance, and maintenance bonds, applicants will be required to provide a surety bond instead.
