of the Statewide Elevate Florida Program


(Brooksville, FL) – Hernando County Emergency Management is pleased to announce the launch of the Elevate Florida program, a new statewide initiative designed to strengthen community resilience by mitigating residential properties against natural hazards. The program, spearheaded by the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM), offers funding opportunities for homeowners to complete eligible projects aimed at reducing the impact of future disasters.

Eligible Mitigation Projects: The Elevate Florida program provides funding for the following types of residential mitigation projects:

  • Structure Elevation – Raising homes to minimize flood risks.
  • Mitigation Reconstruction – Rebuilding homes to be more resilient against natural hazards.
  • Acquisition/Demolition – Purchasing and removing homes from high-risk areas.
  • Wind Mitigation – Enhancing structural features to withstand hurricane-force winds.
Eligibility Requirements: To apply for the Elevate Florida program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be the legal property owner of a residential property in the State of Florida.
  • Be willing to contribute up to 25% of the total cost of the project.

    Please Note* Assistance is not available from the State of Florida to cover the homeowner’s project cost (up to 25 percent) responsibilities for Elevate Florida. Residents may use funds from a loan from the Small Business Administration to cover the homeowner’s cost-share.
