Hernando County Code Compliance Installed Human Trafficking Awareness Signage in Massage Parlors Throughout the County

(Brooksville, FL) – Hernando County Code Compliance is taking proactive steps to help prevent human trafficking by implementing standardized human trafficking awareness signage in massage establishments throughout the county.

From late October through mid-November 2025, Code Compliance Officers conducted audits of massage establishments to verify compliance with county and state requirements for human trafficking awareness signage. These requirements specify standards for sign size, font, content, and the use of three required languages to ensure visibility and accessibility.

The audits revealed that none of the establishments were fully compliant at the time of inspection. To promote efficiency and achieve immediate compliance, Code Compliance Officers provided pre-printed, compliant signage directly to businesses during inspections. This approach minimized the need for repeat visits and allowed establishments to come into compliance during the initial inspection. As a result, all audited establishments are now in full compliance and display signage that meets all required standards.

Any activity observed that was inconsistent with traditional massage business practices was reported to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Code Compliance, in partnership with the Florida Department of Health, will conduct follow-up visits to previously audited establishments. Hernando County, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, and the Florida Department of Health remain committed to combating human trafficking and strongly encourage residents and visitors to report any suspicious activity to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
