HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital Offers Free Educational Stroke Prevention Talk to Community on May 19

Learn About Stroke Prevention at a Free Community Talk on Tuesday, May 19

BROOKSVILLE, FL (4/7/2026) -- HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital invites the community to “Stroke Prevention: What you need to know,” an interactive educational session to learn about stroke prevention and signs of a stroke.

The session, presented by board-certified emergency medicine physician Christopher Komurek, DO, will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Dr. Komurek will answer questions from the audience following the presentation.

Stroke is a serious public health concern in the United States. According to the American Heart Association, it is the nation’s fourth leading cause of death, with someone dying from stroke every three minutes and 14 seconds in 2023.

People at higher risk of stroke include those with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, carotid or other artery disease, transient ischemic attacks (TIAs), atrial fibrillation or other heart conditions, certain blood disorders, and sleep apnea. Risk also increases with age, especially after 55, and with a family history of stroke.

The good news is that these conditions are treatable. Working with your doctor to manage them, along with making healthy lifestyle changes, such as increasing physical activity, quitting smoking or vaping, avoiding illegal drug use, and limiting alcohol consumption, can significantly reduce your risk of stroke.

“Knowing your individual risk of stroke and managing the conditions that contribute to stroke is the key to prevention, as well as living the healthiest lifestyle possible,” said Dr. Komurek. “Knowing the signs and symptoms of stroke is helpful to provide timely treatment and speedy intervention for the best possible outcomes.”

The community talk will take place from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2026 on the campus of HCA Florida Oak Hill Hospital – GME conference room, 11307 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville. RSVP by calling 844-630-5295, or visit our “Classes and Events” tab to register online.
