Closure of Linda Pedersen Park Observation Tower
Effective Immediately – Closed Until Further Notice
(Brooksville, FL) – The Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department is notifying the public that the Linda Pedersen Park Observation Tower is closed to all public use until further notice due to serious safety concerns identified in recent structural inspections.
Constructed in 1994, the heavy timber structure has experienced significant deterioration over time due to weather exposure, aging materials, and outdated fastening methods. Two professional on-site inspections have confirmed that the tower poses a risk of falling, structural failure, and injury to users.
Key Safety Issues Identified:
· Missing deck planks and unstable stair treads, creating tripping and fall hazards.
· Loose and failing guard rails, especially at the entry ramp.
· Detached joists and rim boards, compromising load-bearing integrity.
· Internal decay in main vertical support columns, threatening overall stability.
Due to these conditions, public access is prohibited for the foreseeable future. We understand this closure may inconvenience visitors, but ensuring the safety of our community is our top priority. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
