CITY OF BROOKSVILLE PROCLAIMS HURRICANE PREPARDENESS WEEK

Brooksville, Florida (May 8, 2024) – At the May 6, 2024, Brooksville City Council Meeting, the City Council recognized May 5 – May 11, 2024, as Hurricane Preparedness Week. The proclamation was accepted by Hernando County Emergency Management Director, David DeCarlo, FPEM.  Mr. DeCarlo updated then community on this year’s hurricane outlook and provided hurricane tips. In issuing this proclamation and with hurricane season approaching, the City of Brooksville strongly encourages citizens to act and be prepared. Citizens can do this by considering household and shelter needs in the event of a hurricane. Citizens are encouraged to plan for communication, medical, and pet needs as well as stocking up on battery powered items if electric and other services are not available. The City of Brooksville urges citizens to establish communication plans with family and friends, prepare emergency kits that will last several days and include insurance information, batteries, personal items, clothes, first aid supplies, non-perishable foods and water. Create a check list of necessary items that can be quickly assembled and brought to a shelter if needed.  Please be advised that you can contact agencies such as the Red Cross, Federal Emergency Management Agency, or Hernando County Emergency Management to find out more information on hurricane and disaster preparedness.
