Black Deaf Experience Event to Highlight Culture, History, and Mental Health

New Port Richey, FL — February 21, 2026 — Community members are invited to attend Black Deaf Experience: Past & Present, a special event celebrating the culture, history, and lived experiences of the Black Deaf community. The program will feature a Black Deaf panel sharing personal perspectives on life past and present, and how Black Deaf history has helped shape today’s Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) culture.

The event will be conducted in American Sign Language (ASL), with interpretation provided for those who do not sign. Attendees will also explore mental health stigma within the Black Deaf community through discussion, storytelling, and audience Q&A.

The afternoon will include a welcome and prayer by Michael Cox, the National Black Anthem performed by Tamara, a panel discussion with Q&A, and a poetry and song by Tina. A full meal will be served, including collard greens, macaroni and cheese, curry chicken, curry turkey, rice, cornbread, desserts, lemonade, and tea. The event will provide an opportunity for learning, cultural celebration, fellowship, and community connection.

In addition to the panel discussion, the program will include poetry and music, a headwrap tutorial, trivia games, door prizes, and a full meal.
