Where: Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind, 9130 Ridge Road, New Port Richey, FL 34654-5034, 727-815-0303
Who: LVIB Youth Program Coordinator Carly Cline, staff, volunteers, members from our Board of Directors, and LVIB Past or Present Royalty will facilitate the event.
Teens in attendance are from 1) Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind, 2) Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches, 3) Lighthouse of Pinellas, 4) Lighthouse for the Blind and Low Vision (Tampa), 5) Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches, and 6) New Vision for Independence. The host, Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind (LVIB), has provided vision rehab to visually impaired residents of Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus Counties since 1983. The mission of LVIB is to educate, empower, and employ people who are visually impaired.
Why: High school proms are designed for teens who can see. Our teens go to these proms but don’t always enjoy them the way sighted teens do and they are often the only visually impaired person at the party. To ensure our teens experience proms to the fullest, we hold them at the NPR Lighthouse and design them for easy access so teens can move about freely and enjoy every aspect. Our teens tell us our proms help them socially—they learn how to dance, mingle, and make life-long friends.
Support: Sponsorships are available to support the event to assist with expenses and provide business marketing opportunities.
