The fundamentals of caring for you, your family and your child with mental illness. What is NAMI Basics? NAMI Basics is a 6-week education program for parents and caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illnesses. It is taught by trained teachers who have raised a child who developed a mental illness before the age of 13. All instruction materials are FREE to participants. Goals of the Program: -To give the basic information necessary to take the best care possible of your child, your family and yourselves -To help you cope with the impact that mental illness Course Includes: -Introduction. It is no one?s fault. Mental illnesses are brain disorders. -Getting an accurate diagnosis: childhood bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, depression, ADD, ODD, OCD and others. -Communication skills, problem solving, crisis preparation and response, handling challenging behaviors, relapse planning. -Record keeping and dealing with systems your child is involved in such as school and juvenile activities.
