Lighthouse’s 2nd Annual ‘Dining in the Dark’
The Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind will hold its second annual Dining in the Dark on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Silverthorn Country Club, 4550 Golf Club Lane in Brooksville. Dining in the Dark is a unique culinary ‘celebration of the senses,’ enhanced by velvety darkness. This dinner/dance is a benefit designed to raise awareness and funds in support of Lighthouse services for people who are visually impaired and blind.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with a reception and a cash bar cocktail hour. At 7:00 p.m., diners will be seated, put on blindfolds and then the fun begins. Diners will enjoy a gourmet five-course dinner. After dinner, the lights “come up” and dancing begins. Guests can choose to keep their blindfolds on for the entire dining experience or for portions of the event.
The event's theme, ‘celebrating the senses,’ is being used to tantalize more than just the taste buds. Velvety darkness, delicate scents and textures, and a special selection of music will heighten the other senses. ‘Dining in the Dark’ deepens the diner’s sense of taste, touch, smell, and hearing, and at the same time, it provides a simulation in blindness that increases awareness of the abilities of people who are visually impaired and blind. The inaugural Dining in the Dark event held in January 2015 was a fantastic success.
Seats are $100. Sponsorships are also available. Sponsors for the 2016 event include a Gold Sponsor, Publix Super Markets Charities; a Silver Sponsor, St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute; and, Staywell, A Well Care Company, our in-kind print sponsor. Additional information on the event can be obtained from http://www.lvib.org or by contacting the Lighthouse at (727) 815-0303.
