February is African-American History Month and your Hernando County Public Library System is holding several programs to commemorate this.
On Tuesday, February 3, the Main Library is honored to present notable Brooksville native Mable Sims to speak about the history of African Americans in Hernando County. Ms. Sims, a descendant of early county residents, has worked for many years to preserve the buildings and artifacts on her family’s farm in Twin Lakes, one of Hernando County’s first African American communities. She will speak about her ancestors and the history of African Americans in Hernando County. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hernando County, FL, Inc.
