SETTING
Set in Suite 719 of New York City’s famous Plaza Hotel, this fast-paced comedy unfolds through three wildly different stories, all taking place in the same hotel room. Each act introduces new characters navigating love, marriage, and mayhem.
Visitor from Mamaroneck – A married couple revisits the hotel suite where they once honeymooned, hoping to rekindle romance—only to discover their relationship has changed more than they expected.
Visitor from Hollywood – A film producer reconnects with his childhood sweetheart in an attempt to sweep her off her feet… despite the fact that she’s now married to someone else.
Visitor from Forest Hills – A bride locks herself in the bathroom on her wedding day, forcing her frantic parents to coax her out before guests discover the chaos.
With Simon’s signature wit, sharp dialogue, and heartfelt humor, Plaza Suite explores the absurdities and tenderness of relationships at their most vulnerable—and most hilarious.
Karen Nash
In her 40s–50s. Intelligent, emotional, and deeply invested in saving her marriage. Karen wants romance and connection, even if she has to drag it out of her husband. Strong comedic timing with dramatic depth.
Sam Nash
In his 40s–50s. A successful businessman more focused on work than rekindling romance. Wry, sarcastic, somewhat detached—but not without heart. Must balance dry humor with subtle vulnerability.
Muriel Tate
In her 40s–50s. Stylish, sharp, and independent. Once a small-town sweetheart, now grounded and realistic about life. Strong presence and comedic rhythm.
Jesse Kiplinger
40s–50s. A flashy Hollywood producer with ego and charm. Fast-talking, confident, and opportunistic. Big personality and strong comedic energy.
Roy Hubley
40s–50s. Father of the bride. Loud, overbearing, loving but exasperated. His panic builds as wedding time approaches. Requires high energy and strong comedic escalation.
Norma Hubley
40s–50s. Mother of the bride. Emotional, dramatic, and frantic. Alternates between soothing and spiraling. Excellent physical comedy opportunities.
Mimsey Hubley
Early 20s. The bride. Spirited, stubborn, and overwhelmed. Though much of the role is heard from behind the bathroom door, vocal expression and comedic timing are key.
Bellhop / Waiter (optional doubling role)
Small but memorable roles. Opportunity for sharp comedic moments and character work.
