News Release: 12/21/2018:Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect for coastal areas of Hernando Count

SITUATION
The Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect for coastal areas of Hernando County through 6 PM this evening. Coastal flooding will continue to be possible through this evening, especially at the time of high tide this afternoon.
A Gale Warning is in effect for all coastal waters through 10 PM this evening.
A Lake Wind Advisory is also in effect through 7 PM this evening. Wind speeds will continue to increase through early this afternoon, then will start to subside overnight tonight. Additional rainfall today is generally expected to be no more than about a half inch.
County Park Closures:
  • Alfred McKethan/Pine Island, 10840 Pine Island Drive at Pine Island
  • Bayport Park, 4140 Cortez Blvd.
Also, all coastal boat ramps are closed. Roads are being monitored and will close if flooding occurs.
 
RECOMMENDED ACTIONS
  • Mariners should heed warnings and advisories, as there are very dangerous boating conditions over coastal waters.
  • Locally heavy rainfall may cause quick ponding of water on roadways, especially in coastal and low-lying areas. Turn around, don’t drown. Do not drive through flooded areas.
  • Residents are urged to actively monitor local news media or the National Weather Service at https://www.weather.gov/tbw/
