As business owners, we all know the critical role of referrals for the generation of clients and customers. Referrals and opportunities always come through other people.
Cold calls are out of the question and we don’t want to be salesy. So referrals are critically important to build our businesses. There are easy ways to build a solid referral-based business, and other ways that are neither easy nor productive.
If you ignore building your relationships, you are actively limiting the number of key people who can open doors you would have never even thought to knock on. Part of building a satisfying business is to nurture the everyday relationships that develop throughout your life and career.
Think about the people you already know and like. How do you connect? Or reconnect? It takes thought and a strategy on how to develop and build relationships. It’s not automatic. It takes action.
Keeping connections fresh is entirely about giving. You give attention, and you’re not asking for anything. It’s a pleasant contact for them. And it makes a huge difference.
Learning how and what it takes to nurture your connections can be the difference between a thriving business and a struggling one.
