In partnership with the YMCA of the Suncoast and the Hernando County Health Department, the Hernando County Public Library System is hosting the inaugural Brooksville Library 5K and Kids Fun Run on Saturday, February 28, 2015 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Main Library in downtown Brooksville. This run will benefit the Friends of the Library of Hernando County and YMCA of the Suncoast.
To help support and encourage non-runners to participate in the race, the Florida Department of Health and YMCA of the Suncoast are offering a free Couch to 5K program, an eight-week training program designed to help non-runners reach the finish line. The training period begins January 2 and continues through February 27. There is no charge to participate in the Couch to 5K training; however, participants must be registered in the Brooksville Library 5K Run. Registration for the 5K Run is $25 and registration for the Kids Fun Run is $15. Register online or download the print registration form at http://brooksvillelibrary5k.com/.
The Couch to 5K training will be facilitated by YMCA trainers in person and through social media. Weekly participant runs will be scheduled each Saturday at 11:30 a.m. until the event. These group walks/runs will be designed to gradually lead participants from the couch to the finish line. An informational kick-off meeting will be held Friday, January 2, at 6:00 p.m. at the YMCA in Spring Hill, (1300 Mariner Blvd) where trainers will explain the program and training schedule.
